Beach Clubs: Six of Ibiza’s Finest

Amante Beach Club

Although they’re near neighbours, on the same Santa Eulalia coastline, Amante Beach Club is about as mellow as Nikki Beach is ostentatious. Carved into the side of caramel-coloured cliffs washed by a shimmering cove, its spectacular setting is private, secluded and, above all, impossibly romantic (amante = lover in Spanish).

Amante Club Ibiza

Run by a former-DJ Brit, Amante Beach Club combines a decent sound system with fresh smokey grill-cooked food and soft sunloungers to great effect. Rustically furnished in wood and white canvas, it hosts the original Ibiza crowd, a crowd of all ages, one that is happy to be anonymous – even if you’re famous.

By day, long lazy simplistic yet flavoursome lunches are followed by an equally long lazy siesta and sunbathe. By night, the dramatic rocks are illuminated by subtle coloured lighting to create a magical dining destination.

When asked his favourite supper spot on the Island, You’re Beautiful crooner and Ibiza resident, James Blunt, said, “Watch the sun go down and then have dinner at Amante Beach Club. Kylie had her album launch party here, so if it’s good enough for her, it’ll be good enough for you”. Indeed the pint-sized popstrel sent forth Aphrodite here back in 2010, in the company of a select guest list of one hundred.

Greek goddess of love Aphrodite would certainly have felt home at here, especially had she picked the candlelit ‘Amante Table’ for two. Set far from the madding crowd in a dainty Balinese hut, you get a specially designed tasting menu and your personal waiter for the night – All The Lovers indeed. You can even get married here - Camilla Dallerup (offa Strictly) chose Amante to tie the knot with Kevin Sacre (offa Hollyoaks) in 2010.

Romance isn’t always on the menu at Amante, Tuesdays are for early morning yoga practice followed by a healthy buffet breakfast on the terrace and, new for 2014, Mondays are movie night. Ranking amongst the most atmospheric open-air cinemas on the planet, filmgoers can snuggle on oversized beanbags and watch everything from Gravity to Blue Jasmine beside the moonlit sea.
